Bayern midfielder José Ernesto Sosa has opted for a temporary step back, with the ultimate aim of taking two steps forward. The 24-year-old left Munich on Wednesday for his home country of Argentina, where he will rejoin his former club Estudiantes de La Plata with immediate effect. Bayern and the current Argentine league leaders have agreed loan terms for the midfielder through to 30 June 2010.

“I’m a realist,” Sosa commented regarding his position at the Munich club. Since arriving in Bavaria in July 2007, the player nicknamed El Principito (Little Prince) in his home country has been unable to rise above the status of squad player. Sosa has in fact made 52 appearances for FCB and has scored twice, but he has only started 22 matches in total.

Missed chance

“I can have no complaints. My team-mates have always treated me fairly. I’ve simply not made the most of my appearances when I’ve been handed them,” was the player’s frank assessment. José will now seek to gain competitive match practice at Estudiantes, where his rapid rise to prominence first made him a target for Bayern, before trying his luck again in Munich next summer. His contract with Bayern runs until 30 June 2011.

Eleven games into the Argentine Apertura championship, Estudiantes are level on points with Banfield and Newell's but head the standings on goal difference. The Copa Libertadores holders will travel to Dubai in early December as the South American representatives at this year’s FIFA Club World Cup
